Unsteady Flow Oscillations in a 3-D Ventilated Model Room with Convective Heat Transfer

Improving indoor air quality and energy consumption is one of the high demands in building sector. In this study, unsteady flow oscillations a 3-D ventilated model room with convective heat transfer have been studied for three configurations an empty (case 1), unheated box 2) heated 3). Computational results are validated against experimental data airflow velocity, temperature turbulence kinetic energy. For each case, unsteadiness presented by time history velocity at prescribed monitor points further analyzed using Fast Fourier Transform technique. case 1, oscillation irregular less dependent on points. 2, still but increased frequency, possibly due to enhanced recirculation around corners box. 3, dominant frequency exists, thermal oscillating higher than Among cases, 3 has highest range 4.3–4.6 Hz, lowest 1.25 m2⁄s.
